Nadolig Llawen and all that

19th December 2012
Mae'n rhyfeddol faint o ymweliadau y mae'r wefan fach hon yn ei dderbyn, yn enwedig o ystyried cyn lleied o ddiweddaru sydd arni! Rwy'n tueddu i ddefnyddio flickr ar gyfer llwytho lluniau. Datblygodd flickr i mi fel rhyw fath o ddyddiadur, a hwnnw rwy'n ei ddefnyddio yn bennaf i ffendio llun i ffitio thema bersonol neu ar gyfer anghenion "cwsmer". Mae flickr yn fy arwain at luniau ar ddyddiad penodol, ac yna rwy'n gallu chwilio ar y cyfrifiadur adre am luniau perthnasol ar sail y dyddiad neu'r cyfnod hwnnw.

Fel cyn-lyfrgellydd ac archifydd, efallai bod hyn yn swnio'n ffordd ryfedd o ddarganfod deunydd. Fe ddylwn wrth gwrs gatalogio a mynegeio popeth yn fanwl. Ond y gwir yw nad wyf eto wedi ffendio unrhyw catalog sy'n addas i ateb anghenion creadigol. Dilyn llwybr ar hyd gwead y cof y mae rhywun - llwybrau o syniadau, teimladau ac atgofion.

Cafwyd cwpwl o wythnosau prysur iawn yn ddiweddar. Fe ddangosodd un o fy lluniau ar glawr "Cristion", un arall fel llun y mis yn Barn (storm ar y Prom yn Aber), a cwpwl o rai eraill y tu mewn i gyhoeddiadau. Cefais "gig" gwahanol iawn hefyd - tynnu lluniau parti ymddeol, a chreu albwm wedi'i argraffu. Fe gymerodd y gwaith cyfrifiadur LLAWER iawn mwy o amser na fuaswn i wedi hoffi - ond felly mae hi efo cysylltiad rhyngrwyd ciami.

Ond y prif waith y mis hwn oedd chwilio am luniau ar gyfer llyfr. Nid ffotograffau y tro hwn, ond llawysgrifau o'r canol oesoedd. Cefais fymryn o sioc o sylweddoli faint oeddwn i wedi anghofio am ffynonellau'r cyfnod. Ond roedd y darnau yn disgyn i'w lle ar ôl sbel fach.

Diolch am alw draw ac am ddarllen hwn. Fe wela i chi eto yn y flwyddyn newydd, gobeithio.

Dymunaf Nadolig Llawen a Blwyddyn Newydd Dda i chwi oll.

I'm constantly surprised at how many visits are made to this site. It doesn't change much I'm afraid, and I find flickr much more useful and fun than a relatively static "statement" website. My flickr stream is my diary in pictures, and is, when linked to memories, my primary "finding aid" when someone asks if I have a "picture of...".

I recently turned off the "ordering" option on this site (or at least I think/hope I have), as I was slightly worried that for once, someone might actually order something, just when I'm unable, for a multitude of minor reasons, to deliver.

This month turned from lamb to lion, as all of a sudden work piled in. I was lucky enough to get a cover picture for the Welsh language national Christian magazine, and also another picture of the month and an illustrative portrait, in the current affairs magazine "Barn". I was also asked to produce a retirement album for a local clergyman, which I quite enjoyed doing, though it took MUCH longer at the computer screen than I'd have wished. The promise and reality of on-demand publishing and slow internet.

However, most of my energy this month was channelled into picture research for a book. Not photographs this time, but medieval manuscripts (for some reason I've used "mediaeval" for many years, but everyone seems to use "medieval" nowadays). It's been as if the clock had been wound back 20+ years, but so far, very enjoyable.

Thank you for visiting. I wish you all a very happy Christmas and an excellent New Year.
