Gwobr "Amser" Taliesin. Good heavens, I won!

Braf iawn oedd ennill cystadleuaeth ffotograffiaeth y cylchgrawn Taliesin (Gwanwyn 2012) ar y thema "amser".

Mae'r llun arobryn i'w weld yn fwy yma http://www.flickr.com/photos/traedmawr/5968245340/ ac mae'r cylchgrawn ar gael drwy wefan Gwales http://www.gwales.com/bibliographic/?isbn=F700492884

It was nice to win the photo prize in the spring edition of Taliesin, the Welsh language journal of the Welsh Academy. The theme of the competition was "time" and I entered a picture of David Lloyd George and the Tardis at Caernarfon Castle, which raised a smile with the judge. You can see the picture at a larger size on flickr. Follow the first link above.
Darwin a Moel Tryfan - Diluvialists v Glacialists
28th March 2012 - 1 comment
Ym Mehefin 1842, cymaint oedd pwysigrwydd darganfyddiadau dearegol ar Moel Tryfan, sydd uwchlaw Rhosgadfan yn Eryri, a'r chwarel lechi a roddodd deitl i gyfrol gyntaf Kate Roberts, sef chwarel Cors y Bryniau, fel y daeth Charles Darwin ei hun yno i astudio'r creigiau ar y copa.

Ffurfiwyd y Foel wrth i ddau rewlif frwydro yn erbyn ei gilydd, un yn cario gwaddol o wely'r môr, megis cregyn, a'r llall wedyn yn gosod clai a cherrig o'r mynyddoedd ar ei ben, a'i selio. Fe ddaeth y Foel yn rhan o'r frwydyr rhwng y rhai oedd yn coelio mai gwaddol y Dilyw Beiblaidd oedd wedi gosod y cregyn ar ben y mynydd, tra bod eraill yn credu mai rhewlifoedd Oes yr Iâ oedd wedi ffurfio'r Foel 20-30 mil o flynyddoedd yn ôl.

Lle arw a diarffordd yw'r Foel, ond mae'n hynod bwysig i hanes Cymru, a hanes daearegol y byd. Mae hefyd yn hynod o brydferth wrth i'r haul fachludo i'r gorllewin, a goleuo'r creigiau sy'n ymwthio o'r pridd gyda'i olau cochlyd.

Moel Tryfan, above Rhosgadfan in Snowdonia, has an important place in the history of Wales and the history of geological studies. The Foel was formed by two conflicting ice sheets, some 20-30 thousand years ago. The first dredged up materials including shells from the ocean floor, depositing them at the Foel, then the Welsh Ice Sheet pushed clay and rock from the mountains, dumping it on and sealing the top.

The Foel became a battle ground between those who believed that the sea shells on top of the mountain were carried there by the Biblical Flood, and those who were forming the theory of Glaciology. Indeed, such was the significance of Moel Tryfan, that Charles Darwin himself visited and studied the site in 1842.

Moel Tryfan is a rugged, somewhat inhospitable place, surrounded by abandoned slate quarries, one of which, Cors y Bryniau Quarry, gave its name to the first published volume by the Welsh Author, Kate Roberts. It is however a place of great beauty, especially as the setting sun casts its glow on the rocks, jutting from the summit.

Mae'r wythnosau diwethaf wedi hedfan heibio wrth i mi gwblhau prosiectau bach a mawr, megis cynorthwyo cyhoeddwr i ddarganfod a chlirio hawliau lluniau, darparu lluniau gwreiddiol i asiantaeth, heb sôn am mymryn o waith cyfieithu rhywle yn y canol. Siawns y bydd amser yr wythnos hon i ddiweddaru ychydig ar y wefan hon.

I've been quite busy of late completeing a few projects, large and small, such as helping a publisher find and clear pictures for a book, supplying an agent with numerous original photographs, and even a touch of translation. Hopefully this week or next, I'll be able to upload a few more pics onto this site.

Keep visiting!

Ddoe fe fues am dro i Ynyslas a Borth, a thynny ychydig o luniau i'w hychwanegu at fy mhortffolio. Roedd hi'n weddol glir, yn braf, yn wyntog, ac yn ofnadwy o oer!

Gwelwch y lluniau wrth ddilyn y linc isod.

Yesterday was a glorious sunny day, with a biting wind from the east, I ventured over to the nature reserve at Ynyslas to grap a few pictures. Before my hands froze. See them from the above link.

Heddiw fe fum yn nigwyddiad haciaith ym Mhrifysgol Aberystwyth. Diwrnod gwych. Trafodaeth Cymraeg ar bod math o faterion a syniadau yn ymwneud â'r byd technolegol/rhirhiol.

Wele rhai lluniau o'r diwrnod hynod ddifyr yn y fan hyn:

I spent most of today at the haciaith event at Aberystwyth University. A kind of Welsh language "barcamp". Brilliant day! Click on the above link to see some pics.
Uwchraddio - upgrading

Fe fyddaf yn uwchraddio'r Orielau yn sylweddol dros yr wythnos nesaf, ac fe fydd rhai pethau'n edrych braidd yn rhyfedd ac allan o drefn tra mae'r gwaith yn mynd yn ei flaen. Ymddiheuriadau! Fe ddylwn i orffen erbyn y 3ydd Chwefror, gobeithio.

I'm in the middle of upgrading the content of the Galleries, and while I get on with the job, things might get a little messy! Apologies. Hopefully I will have finished by 3 February.
Noson ym Methlehem - An evening in Bethlehem
26th January 2012 - 0 comments
Heno roeddwn yn arddangos lluniau (gyda nifer fechan o artistiaid a dylunwyr lleol) yn Ysgoldy Bethlehem, Llandre, ger Aberystwyth. Cynhaliwyd y noson gan Wyn Melville Jones, a oedd yn cyflwyno llun arbennig i'w arddangos yn yr Ysgoldy.

Fe ddangosais 3 print A3, dau o rai lleol iawn, ac un arall mwy celfyddydol ei naws yr rwyf hoffi ar y funud (yr angel sydd ar y dudalen hafan).

Noson hyfryd, hamddenol, ond biti bod rhaid hel ein traed am saith ar gyfer twmpath y pentre! Lluniau o'r noson yma!

This evening I attended an exhibition by local artists at Ysgoldy Bethlehem (Bethlehem [Sunday] Schoolroom). The evening was arranged by Wyn Melville Jones, who presented a painting to the Ysgoldy to the chapel authorities.

Some pictures of the evening, you might spot a few of my prints somewhere in the background.
The Story of Saunders Lewis
17th January 2012 - 0 comments
Mae'r llyfr y bum i'n gwneud mymryn o ymchwil lluniau arno, sef "Stori Saunders Lewis/The Story of Saunders Lewis" ar gael yn y siopau, neu trwy wefan Gwales.

A book for which I did a little picture research is available via book shops, or on the web via Gwales. It's a bilingual publication, and is an excellent introduction to one of the most influential figures in Welsh life, language, politics and literature during the latter half of the twentieth century.

Newyddion da, a diolch i BT. Trwsiwyd y llinell ffôn heddiw.

Good news (I think). Thanks to BT for fixing our phone line today.

Mae problem technegol wedi codi ar y llinell ffôn. Os ydych yn dymuno cysylltu, ffoniwch y rhif symudol, neu defnyddio'r ffurflen gyswllt (linc o'r hafan).

There's a technical problem with my landline, so if you need to contact me, please call my mobile, or use the "contact" form (linked from the home page).
2012 ymlaen â ni

Wel, mae'n edrych na fydd gennyf luniau del o eira ar gyfer farchnad Nadolig y flwyddyn nesaf. Mae'r tywydd wedi bod yn arbennig o fwyn, os yn wyntog ac yn niwlog ac yn wlyb. Ond mae fy nheithiau teuluol i ogledd Cymru wedi rhoi'r cyfle i mi dynnu llond dwrn o luniau rwy'n eithaf balch ohonynt. Rwyf wedi roi fy ffefryn ar dudalen hafan y wefan hon. Ys gwn i a fedrwch ddyfalu pa un?

Gan ddymuno blwyddyn newydd dda i bod un ohonoch.

No pictures of snow this year, it appears. The weirdly changeable weather has yet to produce any snow here in our corner of mid Wales, but as a neighbour gloomily mentioned, the awful snow of 1947 and 1963 didn't appear until mid-January!

My family trips to north Wales have produced some quite nice pictures, however. I've added my favourite to the home page slide show. I wonder if you can spot which one it is?

Wishing you all a happy and healthy 1012.

Llew Du - Black Lion
12th December 2011 - 1 comment
Rwyf wedi bod nôl a mlaen sawl gwaith yn ddiweddar i'r Llew Du yn Nhal-y-bont. Nid i slotian nac i besgi, ond i ddarlunio'n hen dafarn ar ei newydd wedd. Mae Siôn a Catrin wedi gweddnewid yr adeilad rhestredig yn fwyty modern a chysurus.

I've been back and forth to the old Black Lion pub, Tal-y-bont rather a lot lately. Not to imbibe, but rather to document it's rebirth. Siôn and Catrin, the new owners, have restored and updated the listed building and transformed it into a classy yet homely restaurant.

Fy mwriad yw mai hwn fydd fy mhrif wefan o ddiwedd y flwyddyn hon, ac fe fydd yn cymryd drosodd o'r blogiau tatws.blogspot.com a traedmawr.blogspot.com

Felly "ar y gweill" mae'r wefan hon ar hyn o bryd. Galwch heibio o dro i dro i weld sut mae'n siapio.

This website is currently "work in progress", but hopefully will take over from tatws.blogspot.com and traedmawr.blogspot.com towards the end of the year. I'll see how it goes.

Call back from time to time to see how I'm getting on.

Hwyl
